集合论的公理。常记作AC。选择公理说的是：对任何一些非空集合，都有一个方法从它们中的每个集合中各选出一个元素来。更准确地说是：对任意一族集合Ai，i∈I，如果对每个i∈I，Ai都不是空集，就一定存在一个函数f，使对每个i∈I，有f（i）∈Ai。在许多情况下，这是一个显然成立的命题。数学中的许多定理都要用到选择公理来证明，选择公理是现代数学中的一个基本原理。从19世纪选择公理提出到现在，发现有上百个数学命题与选择公理等价。然而，从选择公理被正式描述起，就一直受到怀疑。1924年，S.巴拿赫和A.塔尔斯基甚至用选择公理证明了一个怪论：把一个球切成有限多个部分，重新组合可以得到与原球一样大小的两个球。到20世纪60年代，P.J.科恩构造一个ZF公理(见公理集合论）的模型，选择公理在这个模型中不成立。从此以后，人们用选择公理，也用选择公理的反面，来研究数学命题，得到不同的结果。人们还系统地给出了选择公理的一些较弱的形式。这些弱的形式在数学中都有各自的应用。
